Arrival & Free Play

6:30am

The earliest children start the day in one room. As more staff and children arrive, the other rooms are opened. 


Clean Up

8:15am

Children clean up toys and play a transition game to wash hands for snack time. 


Snack

8:30am

Teachers sit at the table with children to teach table manners and facilitate pleasant conversation. The snack helpers set the tables. Children serve themselves as developmentally appropriate.


Circle Time

9:00am

Story, puppets, discussion, show and tell, games, cognitive activities, finger plays and songs, and/or music and movement.


Center Time

9:20am

Children use the choosing board to pick centres: Creative Art, Paint Experience, Dramatic Play, Blocks, Sand, Water, Puzzles & Games, Table Toys, Writing, Sensory, Math & Sciences, etc. 


Children clean up their own centres and then help a friend.

Gross motor games are played as a group and then the children can have free play with centres and toys.

Outside Play

10:30am


A transition game is played to wash hands for lunch. Teachers sit at the table with children to teach table manners and facilitate pleasant conversation. The snack helpers set the tables. Children serve themselves, as developmentally appropriate. As children finish eating they can read a book on their mat to ease the transition from lunch to nap.

 Relaxing music is played and teachers rub the children’s backs until they fall asleep. The children that do not sleep can have a brief rest time and then get up to choose a special toy from the Quiet Time box, table toys, puzzles and games, or something from the Art or Writing Centre and play quietly at a table.

Gross motor games are played as a group and then the children can have free play. On inside days they will have a gross motor circle to burn off energy and then choose centres.

This example routine is flexible and may change based on the needs and interests of the children. Lunch times vary between rooms.
